As New York Fashion Week drew to a close just days ago, and London Fashion Week is just beginning, I have some behind the scene tea to spill. I was lucky enough to be able to volunteer for some different types of shows. I’ve volunteered for Style Fashion Week, Dan Liu and his SS18 collection, and for a Marc Jacobs rehearsal. Yep, you heard that part right, THE Marc Jacobs.
Let us start with my first show (Pictured below.) I volunteered with Ivan Arce a Model/ Volunteer Coordinator for Style Fashion Week. My tasks included set up, being an usher to assist people to their seats, and I even got to sit and watch the shows! There was a presentation by Romeo Hunte for his SS18 collection, and many other up-and-coming designers such as Brittany Nicole, and Misha Kaura. It was the first time I’d attended a NYFW event, and I was amazed by the collections.
The next show I volunteered at was for Vadim Manchevskiy a producer of NYFW Shows. The show that was put on was by designer Dan Liu. My position at this show was to dress one of the many models that would be walking in the show. I had two outfits to dress and one happened to be the final look of the show. Dan Liu used a beautiful array of pastel pinks, blues, and greens and there was also white, cream, and reds added in. The models had bright blue eyeshadow, and peacock feathers glued onto their eyebrows (Pictured below.) The models were very sweet and the show was beautiful.
Lastly, the Marc Jacobs show. When I arrived at the venue we were given numbers and told that we would be walking the venue as the ‘models.’ The purpose of this is to time the show, and to get the perfect camera angles for the media. We rehearsed the whole show maybe three or four times before we were bid farewell. It was insane to later look at pictures of the actual models in their garments, because I had been at the venue earlier that day.
Looking back, I am phenomenally lucky to have been given the opportunity to volunteer at all of these NYFW Shows. It’s only three weeks into the first semester, and already I’ve been able to do so much.
Until the next New York Fashion Week…
